Health Benefits Benchmarking and Data Analysis
Benchmarking Services
Once we help our clients establish the goal of their benefits program, we believe review of objective benchmarking data is the best approach to developing appropriate plan design(s). Through our relationship with the nation's most well respected actuarial firm, McCart has exclusive Georgia access to the largest mid-market (50-5,000 employee firms) benefits survey in the U.S. This survey covers over 100 employers in the Atlanta area and over 5,000 nationwide. Results can be analyzed by industry, geography, and firm size. Our clients find this tool very helpful to establish and monitor plan designs consistent with their goals.
Data Analysis Services
McCart has extensive experience in evaluating cost trend and renewals for organizations of all sizes. Working closely with our actuarial analysts, we can ensure that our clients receive the most fair, accurate and cost-effective renewal. The types of analysis provided include:
BCT Report (Budgeting, Contribution & Trend Report)
The Budgeting, Contribution & Trend Report provides an actuarial forecast of costs in the coming year leading to budget rates and employee contributions. The BCT Report shows the relative value of plans and coverage tiers to ensure your plan rates equitably reflect the differences in cost.
Financial Monitoring Report
The Financial Monitoring Report (FMR) provides the answers a benefits manager needs to facilitate communications with participants, accounting and finance. The FMR brings together claims experience, benefits paid, expenses, and gross and net costs, to name just a few items, in one financial report.
IBNR Reserve (Incurred But Not Reported Reserve Calculation)
The IBNR Reserve calculation uses actuarial projection techniques to estimate incurred claims and determine how much you should be holding in reserves to avoid IRS and DOL compliance issues.
Renewal Evaluation
The Renewal Evaluation is the final step in the renewal process and is conducted after receiving renewals from the insurance carriers. We update and review the calculations completed in the Renewal Projection with various items, such as additional claims experience and plan design changes. In addition, we help with the negotiation and contracting process.
The PPACA Employer Impact Report
This report assists our clients in understanding the impact of Health Care Reform as it relates to their employer-sponsored health benefit plan.

Consumer-Driven Health Plans (HSAs, HRAs)
McCart has extensive experience in providing assistance and guidance to employers with Consumer Directed Health Plans (CDHPs). We believe that this type of plan can provide value and help control group health plan costs in many cases, but not all. We conduct a thorough analysis of your data and ensure that we understand your benefits philosophy and culture before making any recommendations about plan or funding changes. We utilize several proprietary tools to analyze your data before suggesting changes. We prepare an actuarial projection of your future cost savings based on plan change options.
The McCart Group helps its clients adhere to the legislative guidance with regard to recouping mistaken HSA contributions, debit card restrictions, paying Medicare Part D premiums and COBRA, “mini-med” plans, and state trust law application.
